In an effort to make sure summer doesn't pass us by, we've decided to take a month off from blogging here at Two Writing Teachers again this summer. Today is the last non-Slice of Life Story Challenge post you'll see until Monday, August 5th. (NOTE: We'll still be hosting the Tuesday Slice of Life Story Challenge during the entire month of July.)
With so many fantastic books about the teaching of writing out there, how do teachers who are new to writing workshop know what to read first? Here are 12 books I think all teachers of writing should read.
My keynote begins with a story about over-packing a diaper bag as a new mom and then pairing down the bag to the essentials once my daughter got older. From there, I talk about how I discovered that to be an effective teacher of writing, I had to be a Writer. My speech covers why I write, how to make time for a writing life, conquering the fear of writing, the Slice of Life Story Challenge, how to model writing from the heart, and the importance of putting writing at the center of everything we do in our classrooms.
The week of June 10th was hectic around here.
