Fiction is not a dream, nor is it guesswork. It is imagining based on facts, and the facts must be accurate or the work of imagining will not stand up.

Yes! Love this quote. I tell my students that when they write a story they can start from what they know or their own experience and then they can make up the rest. Create their own lives, rewrite it so there’s a new ending. I got this from a new Katherine Patterson book about an author that comes to work with a group of children at a school. Can’t remember the title at the moment but I am planning to use it as a mentor text next year.

Thinking about the role of research again, right? I do think that there’s a lot to research as a component of most (all?) writing that we overlook. Glad you found this quote to help us think about it a little more.
