Daily Something: Helping Others

Daily Something 121607 Originally uploaded by teachergal My Mom and I were talking about things that people can do to reach out to others in their communities yesterday evening. I got inspired and put together a list of things that the average Joe (or Jane) could do to help brighten someone else's day. Here are… Continue reading Daily Something: Helping Others

Creating Gifts of Writing

Due to the snow and the delayed opening, I only had seven of my students today. Kate had five. Hence, we brought our kids together. Luckily the art supplies from Blick arrived yesterday. Hence, we were able to 'open up' the Writing Gift Center this afternoon. Since some of Kate's students weren't familiar with this… Continue reading Creating Gifts of Writing

Poetry Friday: A Poem by Kate DiCamillo

Here's an excerpt from "Snow, Aldo," which is one of the most beautiful poems I've ever read. The imagery is amazing. But most of all, it warms my heart each and every time I read it. Snow, Aldo by Kate DiCamillo Once, I was in New York, in Central Park, and I saw an old… Continue reading Poetry Friday: A Poem by Kate DiCamillo

Friday – Daily Something

I've been pretty good about keeping up with my Daily Somethings. Again, thanks to Ruth, and of course to Ali Edwards, for the inspiration to do these.

Daily Something: It Ended Yesterday

Chanukkah ended yesterday. I'm no longer commanded to kindle the lights on the menorah. The eighth night of Chanukkah always feels like a let down when you see the flames illuminating your home with their orange glow. However, I've been collecting dreidels for the past ten years. Hence, my little collection reminds me of this… Continue reading Daily Something: It Ended Yesterday

Body Paragraphs

My students will start drafting their personal essay body paragraphs tomorrow. In preparation for this event, I put together the basics of a good body paragraph. They are, as follows: EVERY GOOD BODY PARAGRAPH SHOULD INCLUDE: 1. Topic Sentence: The topic sentence is your hook, it should have a bit of attitude in it. There's… Continue reading Body Paragraphs

Daily Something: Alarm Clock

It is reliable. I've had it since college. That's a long time!!! I invested $17 in this alarm clock in 1995 and it's still working for me, waking me up before the roosters even rustle, each and every weekday morning.

WN Entry: The place where I write

I write daily at my desk. Even though my computer can be transported anywhere, I prefer to sit in my study and write in my desk and my chair. However, when I use a writer’s notebook, I MUST be sitting in something other than my desk chair. I just cannot seem to curl-up with my… Continue reading WN Entry: The place where I write

Daily Something: A little corner of my world

My favorite corner in my home: Pictures I took during my summer vacation. Photos that transport me to another time and place where relaxation takes precedence over the little things we overthink in our daily lives. A sunset in Nantucket. The most perfect hydrangea I've ever seen. The waves at Nauset Beach. Treasures I relish… Continue reading Daily Something: A little corner of my world

TeachersCount

I receive the "TeachersCount" Newsletter each month. I just learned about their blog, which is looking for newer teachers to write one post/week. Since this is a blog about writing and teaching, I thought I'd give a shout-out to their call for new blog writers. Here's what TeachersCount put in their newsletter: TeachersCount is looking… Continue reading TeachersCount
