ICYMI: Erika Victor wrote a great guest post about what it means to slice with students. Read here:
Leah Thomas is passionate about honoring student voice and identity through writing workshop and early literacy. She believes that for children to see themselves as writers, they must be trusted with autonomy and supported as they explore their writing processes. By centering intentional identity development, foundational skills instruction, and a brave classroom community, Leah nurtures young writers as they grow in both skill and craft. The Gateway Writing Project strengthens her belief that teachers who write are better writing teachers. Leah slices at leahthomaswrites.wordpress.com, and you can follow her on LinkedIn and BlueSky: @LeahThomasWrites.

Stephanie, I could not comment on your post, but loved reading about your “new” back to school and felt excited for your adult learners who have a professor as ready and hopeful as you are. I hope it’s an awesome B2S!
Although I’ve now been retired for one year, I still maintain a too-busy schedule. I didn’t realize how much I needed to get away and spend time with a dear friend until she said, “Pack a bag! We’re going antiquing.” https://www.galleystreet.blog/2026/08/18/ovam-girls-trip/
I tried to post on your link, but my computer is wonky! I apologize if this is a repeat: I love this! It’s approachable at almost any level and the photographs really help to make it concrete! Have the best school year!
What a trial to go through this visit with the memories, experiences, waiting and all else.
I really appreciate the lines “waiting, while who knows what/X is decided for her by overpaid icy/yahoos…” . We are living in an intentionally unstable world (not to get on my soapbox) and it feels like the rules or sliding scale or whatever dictates how we live our lives continue to change daily.
I am glad Rocio has a friend like you and you her. We are stronger together.
