CLASSROOM SLICE OF LIFE STORY CHALLENGE: DAY 22 OF 31
A quick reminder: The comments section here is reserved for student writing only. If you are posting as an adult, please share the link to your post under the call for slices titles “Day 22 of the March SOLSC.”
It’s Day Twenty-two of the Classroom Slice of Life Story Challenge. Welcome back! If your students are struggling to find inspiration, you might teach them a few new strategies.
Some strategies:
- Listening to music, or making a list of favorite songs can bring back memories. What’s on your favorite playlist right now? Chances are, at least a fee of those songs have a memory or two to go along with them.
- Make a timeline of your week (or your day). Circle the spots on the timeline that seem more important. Pick one and write the story of it. Write exactly what happened, step-by-step.
Encourage your students to try out a few stories aloud, talking to a partner or a friend, before choosing one that they will write as a Slice of Life story. Also, by generating lists of ideas instead of just jumping into writing a story, they will be collecting ideas for future posts.
Feel free to share your favorite strategies along with the permalink your class’s slices.
Happy Slicing!

We may need to have the talk about the length of posts again. Are you having trouble with kids writing Facebook type or Twitter type posts rather than a slice of life? Any ideas for getting kids to write more? http://kidblog.org/class/SliceofLifeChallenge/posts
