I worked at The Learning Community: a public charter school in Central Falls, RI from August 2007 – June 2009, which is when I lived in Rhode Island with my husband. I had the privilege of watching The Growing Readers get its start under the direction of Christine Wiltshire Alves, who is one of the most enthusiastic, caring educators I’ve worked with. (In case you missed last month’s blog post about this initiative, then click here to read about it now.) The Growing Readers Initiative has flourished in the past few years and reflects the kind of partnerships more public and charter schools should have.
Late last week, I received an e-mail from The Learning Community, which was releasing some exciting news. Tomorrow night, “Rock Center” will feature a segment about the partnership between The Learning Community and the Central Falls School District. If you don’t expect to be home tomorrow night, then I highly suggest DVRing “Rock Center,” which will feature special correspondent Chelsea Clinton who traveled to Central Falls to interview teachers for the segment. In addition, the “Nightly News with Brian Williams” will feature a short segment about the partnership on Thursday, February 16th.
