So here’s how the giveaway is going to work. It’s a little different than the way we’ve hosted them in the past . . . so read carefully!
If you are interested in Because of Mr. Terupt, leave a comment to any post between Friday, January 14 and Wednesday, January 19. You can comment as many times as you want to any post between tomorrow and next Wednesday. I’ll use a random number generator to select a winner, beginning with number one as the first person who comments tomorrow and going through the last comment next Wednesday, January 19.
If you are interested in Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, then leave a comment (or more) on this post, sharing your favorite place to buy books. (Dash and Lily “met” & loved a book store called The Strand.) Yes, you can enter more than once. Again, I’ll use a random number generator to select the winners.
I’ll select two people from each giveaway to give two copies of the book. This way you can use it in your classrooms for partnerships (or you can give one to a colleague). I’ll announce winners sometime on Thursday.
Just a reminder, Because of Mr. Terupt is geared toward elementary and middle school students and Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares is for high school readers and those interested in young adult books. Here is how I would use these book in teaching voice in writing.

thanks for the opportunity to win a book. what a treasure! My favorite place to buy books is at our local Good Will. i love the fact that i can find great books at a super buy, plus I’m helping the community. any time i find a great book, i buy it, even if i have a copy already. i’m always looking for a friend, colleague, or student who might enjoy the book. 🙂

My favorite place to buy books is Anderson’s Bookshop. The booksellers are very personal and always go out of their way to be helpful. I would love to introduce these books to the teachers in my school.

My favorite bookstore is The Tattered Cover! It is absolutely the most cozy and reader/writer friendly bookstore in my town! I would love to win copies of these books to use as model lessons for the teachers of writing that I work with.

A favorite family outing is to a bookstore – usually a
local Borders or Barnes & Noble. When I’m on my own, I
often go to The Learned Owl in Hudson, OH.

I just recently read Because of Mr. Terupt- in one night. I LOVED the story. Such a fabulous book. I hope to add it to my classroom library. My husband is currently reading it. I’ve not read Dash & Lily, but am waiting for it to come in to my library.
Most of the books I buy come from Scholastic, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon. That is simply because of convenience. I prefer to go to independent bookstores. I have a favorite, The Country Bookseller, in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Unfortunately I live in Central Massachusetts, and there are no indie booksellers nearby.

book demonstrates good writing that we can learn from. I am
particularly interested in Because of Mr. Terupt since I teach at
the elementary level. I love to buy books from Barnes and Noble,
Better World Books, Scholastic, or Amazon. (Basically wherever I
can find a deal!)

One of my favorite places to buy books is Half Price books. You can often find hidden treasures and they are super cheap! The Scholastic warehouse is another favorite place to go. Twice a year they open up for teachers and sell their books at half price. My kids send me with lists of books to search for to add to our classroom library.

The New England Mobile Book Fair in Newton, MA is my favorite place to shop for children’s books. They have just about any picture book you’d ever want to find in stock and they discount all their books, too.

Another late elementary-early middle school book I like is The Trouble With Mark Hopper. It tells the story of two kids, both named Mark Hopper. One is nice and the other is not–and the descriptions of the two boys and how they talk really show their differences. Your mention of voice in these books made me think of this book–it’s not really voice, but definitely word choice, and how the details the author chooses reveal the characters.

I’d use the books with a couple of students I’m working with especially-It would make a good pairing. In Denver, we have great bookstores, so I go to the Tattered Cover for varied choices, children’s too, and also a smaller indie bookstore called The Bookies-lots there for students, teachers, and for general reading too.

I would love to have these books for my class library. Thanks for the opportunity. AND, my favorite online place to buy books is Amazon.com. For in store purchases, I am a sucker for outlet type stores like Ross and Big Lots. I am always amazed by the great books I find tucked away on the back of store shelves! A few days before Christmas I was surprised to find a children’s book by Dean Koontz called Santa’s Twin for only $2.00.

I like the Read Leaf in Springville, Utah. I go to Barnes and Noble more frequently because it’s closer, and I like it, too, but I like the intimacy of a small bookstore with owners who know all (or almost all) the books and really seem to love books. When I have the time to indulge in book browsing, that is the store I like.
