I have been thinking about this for a while, and I think that my word for this year will be simplicity in the sense of making sure that I slow down and take time to enjoy the simple things in life without getting too busy/overwhelmed with too many unnecessary extras.
How did you do your image. I always love the images that you create with photos and words. Is it digital scrapbooking?

It took me awhile, but today it came to me: embrace. I am determined to embrace whatever comes my way and make the most of each day. This will be year of huge changes in my life, as my oldest son will graduate and then head off to the Marines. Rather than struggle with life, I will embrace it.

My fourth graders selected “One Little Word” to live by in 2009. Here’s a link to what their “finished products” look liked: http://shubitz.edublogs.org/2009/01/06/olw-2009/.

My word is JOY 🙂
Thanks for a great idea. I see it as providing a ‘lens’ or ‘refocus’ tool throughout the year. I’ve been sharing the concept with close friends and family.
I love your images. Where do you access the tools to create your lovely posters?

I’ve done this with my students for the last couple of years and let them create word clouds to post to keep them motivated. I always have a few kids that struggle when choosing their word. Any ideas for a book that might inspire some deeper thinking in regards to this? I teach fourth grade.

I’m still working to uncover mine. I found this tool, http://christinekane.com/blog/free-download-word-of-the-year-discovery-tool/, as a means to uncovering my olw.

This year, my word is GROW. I am terrible at sitting still, but, this year, I plan to push all of that energy in a positive direction instead of just running in circles.

After 20-some years of teaching, I finally feel like I know how to teach. That means changing the way I have done things for all that time!

I chose the word BALANCE as well.
Here’s what I wrote about it yesterday:
