Choice in Writing Workshop: Is it possible even though it’s necessary?

Another thing people’s comments on Ruth’s Post got me thinking about was the idea of CHOICE in Writing Workshop.  I wrote about it on this blog in 2007 after attending a session at NCTE with Fletcher, Johnston, and Ray. However, I never posted my raw notes from the session.  However, in light of what’s on a lot of people minds, I’m posting my notes as a way to keep you going… so that you can think about what’s next.

I am a literacy consultant who has spent the past dozen years working with teachers to improve the teaching of writing in their classrooms. While I work with teachers and students in grades K-6, I'm a former fourth and fifth-grade teacher so I have a passion for working with upper elementary students.
