revision

How do you define the word revision?

A few years ago I was given a simple, concrete definition of revision that I've used with my students: to see again. However, I'm curious... how do you describe what revision is in your classroom? Please leave a comment with your definitions. I'd love to compile them all in a post sometime next week.

The First SOLSC for July 2008

Please link your slices here by using Mr. Linky and by posting a comment. We're looking forward to reading your slices. (Here's a snippet of mine, which talks about what precipitated my fall.) The security guard swiped my card key through the reader. He looked down at the picture of me on his screen and… Continue reading The First SOLSC for July 2008

Have you ever done an activity with a family member or a group of kids where you thought, "Wow! I got lucky that worked!"??? That happened to me the first time I did the "Million Dots Display" with my former fifth grade students. The results were amazing... ...but the process was a bit hectic! So,… Continue reading M.M. Layout of Classroom for 2008-09 Originally uploaded by teachergal Recently I blogged about the new layout I'm going to try out in my classroom this fall. I've gotten a few emails about this reorganization. Hence, I wanted to point folks in the right direction with regard to doing their own classroom layout. Some are older… Some are newer…

My Summer (Professional) Reading Originally uploaded by teachergal These four books have been sitting in my bookshelf for the past year begging to be read. I've thumbed through Using Literature to Enhance Writing Instruction and Reading Aloud Across the Curriculum, but haven't read them with the careful, close reading they deserve. All four books are… Continue reading Some are older… Some are newer…

Stacey’s MM: Sometimes You Have to Let Your Hair Down

I've come to believe that sometimes we (i.e., teachers) need to be silly. That could mean jumping into a fountain or jumping into a photograph with a student that you weren't exactly supposed to be in. I remember eating nachos and salsa alongside my students during the second of three mini courses. One of my… Continue reading Stacey’s MM: Sometimes You Have to Let Your Hair Down

My New Spiral Spine Notebook

My New WN: All About the S-es Originally uploaded by teachergal I'm departing, temporarily, from using Miquelrius spiral-spine notebooks. I found a Paperchase Notebook I wanted to try because it has a partial velvety cover and decorative pages. It was a bit whimsical and kind of perfect for summer. Further, I took a cue from… Continue reading My New Spiral Spine Notebook

M.M. Inspiration: Sometimes you have to let your hair down!

Has there ever been a moment in time when you've let your hair down in front of others? For me, it was at the 105th Street (Central Park) Fountain with several of my former students in April 2005. The fountain (in the photo; photo taken in 2007) was empty and several of my students jumped… Continue reading M.M. Inspiration: Sometimes you have to let your hair down!
