2020 June/July Vacation

This has been a school year like no other. There is much to contemplate as most of us wrap up our school year across screens and miles from our students. The world is calling for educators to pay attention, be brave, and to act to change racist systems and policies. We do this while simultaneously navigating the COVID-19 global pandemic and the uncertainties of what the next school year will bring.

The Two Writing Teachers team is taking some time in June and July to read, write, think, process, and plan. Today is the last day we will be posting until August 2nd when we will return with a blog series to launch the new school year.

Our Next Blog Series

Typically, we would share the title of the August blog series at this time. As a team, we have intentionally chosen to pause on preparing the content for the next series. We will be thinking and planning about what will be most needed and relevant for teachers and students in August and will share the topic with you later this summer.

Check Out Our Past Blog Series Posts

While none of us are sure what next year will look like yet, you might find inspiration hiding within our past blog series posts. These are a treasure trove of ideas, visuals, and tools to inspire ideas for next year’s teaching and learning. Here are some of our past August blog series round-ups (each of which include hyperlinks to topical posts):

SOL Tuesdays

Check-in on Tuesdays when I host our weekly call for Slice of Life Stories through the month of July.  If you have been thinking about joining, summer is a great time to share your first Slice of Life story.  Simply write your story on your personal blog, share the URL on Tuesday in our comment section, and leave at least three comments for other bloggers.

Social Media

Before we send you off into summer, we want to share that Kelsey Sorum has decided to leave our writing team. Here’s a bit from Kelsey about her departure:

2019-2020 has presented significant life shifts for me (and for society, collectively, in many different ways). As I realign myself on a path of truth and purpose, I have made the decision to resign my co-authorship position with TWT. Though this choice was made with a heavy heart, it is one that honors the space and time needed to process, heal, and move forward. I will forever be grateful for the years learning and writing alongside the TWT team and the community of educators.

My commitment to myself and to my community is to keep writing. You can find me here:

We hope you find time to rest, relax, and recharge after a very challenging school year and season of life. We know it is a time many of us are reflecting on our ideas and attitudes in our quest to make the world more equitable. We wish you a summer of good health, discovery, reflections, learning and preparing for a new school year.
