Merry Christmas

{created 2007 using Adobe Photoshop Elements}

Around our house we’ve been preparing for Christmas. For weeks we have been celebrating advent, keeping our eyes on the meanings of this holy season. We named our four advent candles: kindness, respect, gratitude, and compassion. We looked for needs and found ways we could fill them. In this world, where Christmas is as much a part of our culture as hamburgers and watermelon on the Fourth of July, we look for ways to live beyond what the world tells us Christmas is. As the time for Christmas rolls closer, we know it won’t be over in a day. We live, as Charles Dickens suggested, by these words, “I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year.”

I believe Christmas changed the world years ago with the birth of a child and can still change the world today.

Merry Christmas.

Unhurried. Finding the magic in the middle of living. Capturing a life of ridiculous grace + raw stories.

  1. I love your scrapbook page. I also liked the names for your advent calendars. I actually chose Gratitude as my 2012 OLW. I have a post scheduled for tomorrow on my personal blog where I do my slice of life stories. I am going to do some scrapbooking to document/focus on my OLW. I just saw Ali Edwards’ OLW class as well. I am going to read more about it.

  2. Beautiful, Ruth. I love your advent candle-theme idea; can I steal? (That sounds so wrong considering the topic…but you know…) Christ IS bigger than a day; it’s a lifestyle. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
