I’ve thinking about this a lot lately. Last Monday, I started working in a 6th grade class that has been dubbed the “bad class.” We began with procedures for reading workshop on my first day. It may seem silly to start reading workshop when we only have a few weeks left of school but I have high expectations. I’m not nearly as concerned with covering the curriculum as I am concerned about how they feel about themselves as readers and thinkers. We can get a lot done in the next two weeks. 🙂
