Stimulus Dollars + Writing Instruction

I, clearly, love the idea Mary Tedrow proposes in her article about investing money in quality writing instruction for our Nation’s students. Please read this article about spending stimulus dollars on writing instruction.    Then, let me know what you think by posting a comment.  Is this where you think a lot of stimulus dollars should be spent or should it go elsewhere or for other kinds of p.d.?  Please weigh-in.

  1. I would love to see this happen. I know that my teaching in all subjects (math, reading, writing, history…) was revolutionized after I started teaching writing differently. At least 2 other teachers at my school are going to the Teacher’s College institute this summer with me, after seeing the results I’ve had after only one year of teaching writing workshop more effectively. I’m excited because I know that this year I was still fumbling around a lot so I can’t even imagine how much fun it will be in future years!

  2. Hey! Thanks for the support. Looks like you two are walking the walk. Doesn’t writing make all of our teaching and learning more personal and humane. Thanks for the good work you are doing.

  3. Yes, it makes so much sense because she is correct that writing IS thinking. Today I read an author quote Guindon, who said, “Writing is nature’s way of letting you know how sloppy your thinking is.” So true!

  4. This article should be on the front of every major newspaper in our country along with being the lead off story for every morning news program. Maybe, Mary should be the Sec. of Education. I love the way she thinks. Be ensured that this article will be in my Assoc. Sup. inbox when he opens his mail tomorrow morning. Thanks for posting it and YES! it is the way to spend the $$$$.
