On Saturday morning the little guy wanted to join me on some errands. I relented. Even though I was looking forward to some time alone, just browsing through stores, I chose him instead. I told myself, Someday you’ll have plenty of time to browse through stores, but you won’t always have a little boy who wants to run errands.
On the way, I began thinking, Why do I have to give up the browsing part of this expedition? We can still walk through stores and notice their fall decorations. Sam would enjoy it too, so I asked him, “Wanna be shopping fools?”
“Of course,” he said, nodding his head, “I’ll keep my hands behind my back.” That was enough for me. I parked on the main street of our small town. We got out and walked, hand in hand to a store all decked out for autumn.
Upon entering, he snapped his hands behind his back. The bells tingled, alerting the shop owner. “How are you today?” she asked, not seeing Sam, since he was hidden behind some potted plants.
“Good,” he said, peeking around green leaves, giving her his sweetest smile, “We’re shoppin’ fools!”
The shop owner giggled. And I couldn’t hide my proud momma smile. Store after store after store we went through the same conversation.
Each time I felt more thankful for this little two year old boy. Not only do I feel pride, but love and peace and joy. Funny how I thought I was being so unselfish by taking him with me, only to be blessed beyond measure in return.
Funny how often life works like this, isn’t it?

I love this story of taking your little boy shopping with you. Sounds like a very well mannered young man. Must be good parenting in the background of this story! Truly a blessing.

I’ll weigh in behind Stacie, Ruth,
Your family pieces are gems. Good that you have a motivation to get them down here to freeze and save.
