Today is the 31st day of the 18th annual Slice of Life Story Challenge. Stacey Shubitz, the lead author of Two Writing Teacher, has been a missed presence this year. Stephanie Paterson wrote a beautiful post this month, thanking Stacey for the space she has created for writers to come together in the spirit of a beautiful community. I am grateful for the vision Stacey had so many years ago and the deep commitment she has made so that this community thrives year after year, greeting each other and welcoming new members. Glenda Funk, Fran McCracken, Joanne Toft, and Peter Van Euler– much gratitude to all of you for the support and energy you provide this community. I have many favorite posts from these writers, but here are ones for this morning’s call:
- Glenda Funk often injects humor and commentary in her posts, and this month it has been fun to follow her slices as she focused on intervals of the day. This one, a slice timed around the dinner hour, struck common threads for me, but I also loved the side notes that are hallmarks of Glenda’s writing.
- Fran McCracken’s posts vary, but almost always include new information and insights, as well as important reflections about her impacts, inspiring readers to both laugh, cry, or do both, depending on the slice. Her daughter’s life-changing accident happened in March of 2020, and Fran’s Story of a Shampoo left me wanting to wrap my arms around her.
- Joanne Toft writes a lot about gardening and noticing the world around her. Her post earlier this month centered on how she nurtures her creative life, and it inspired me to think about what I create time for. It feels like a good one for energizing the writing habit we’ve built over the last 31 days.
- Peter Van Euler’s slices almost always make me smile, even when he’s also making me well up with his writing. Many of his posts this month were inspired by the unearthed treasures that he found as he cleaned his attic. This post, Love is in the Water, inspired by his daughter’s writing, is likely to bring smiles and tears. Enjoy.
Being part of the Slice of Life community is a special place, and on behalf of the Two Writing Teachers co-author team, I want to thank you for writing, sharing, and giving every day this month. Don’t forget to come back every Tuesday to write on Slice of Life Tuesdays!

Melanie, your beautiful words have found their way to me (in my recliner) and have touched my heart. Thank you for reflecting on the space our team has created for this global writing community. It’s humbling to know the idea I had years ago has grown into something that inspires and connects so many writers across the world.
The Slice of Life Story Challenge has always been about celebrating the ordinary moments that make life extraordinary, and it’s been incredible to see how this community has thrived year after year. Even though I couldn’t participate this year, it makes me happy that TWTBlog continues to be a place where writers can share their voices and support one another.
I’m deeply grateful for the commitment and creativity of the TWTBlog Co-Author Team. All of you make this community what it is—a welcoming space filled with encouragement and inspiration. Thank you — Betsy, Jenna, Lainie, Leah, Melanie, Sarah — for carrying forward the spirit of the challenge so beautifully and hosting daily in March.
I look forward to reading more slices and writing them again after recovering from my upcoming chemotherapy treatments.
Warmly,
Stacey
