Slice of Life Story Challenge

Day 2 of the March SOLSC #SOL24

Orange Slice Logo for Slice of Life Story Challenge
Write. Share. Give.

Let’s keep the momentum going!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • This weekend, I will focus on commenting on the blogs of new(er) Slicers first. If you’re new (or new-ish) to our writing community, please let us know when you leave the link to your comment! This allows our long-time members to warmly welcome you. By the way, to our seasoned Slicers, I’ve noticed how many of you have been graciously welcoming our newer Slicers. Your warmth is truly appreciated!
  • The daily “Call for Slice of Life Stories” starts at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time (New York time). We consider the day to end at midnight Eastern Time because we have participants from six continents. Comments can close as early as midnight the next day after the post has been live for 24 hours. If you share your slice-of-life story link after 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, please post it in the next day’s call for slice-of-life stories.
Today's tip is: Expand your network by exploring various blogs. Dive into teasers, spot what intrigues you, and challenge yourself to connect with many people.

BE INSPIRED

Alice Garza, an experienced Slicer, has cleverly crafted a list of challenge-related terms. I absolutely loved her creations and am excited to share them today. You can find Alice’s original list on the Nerds Beget Nerds website.

A list of words and definitions, which is an expansion of Alice Garza's SOLSC Glossary of Terms. To read her original post, go to http://tinyurl.com/solgloss

    1. Hello! If you hit enter between your teaser and your link, you will see a box with a post preview (like your comment today). Unfortunately, these previews clog up our comment section, making navigating our site difficult for some users. If you use a period or just a space instead, that won’t happen next time. Thank you!

    1. Hello! This is not the permalink to your blog post. Please go to the *published* version of your blog post (not the version in the editor) and copy the URL from the navigation bar. Thank you!

    1. Mccoytmh,

Of course, it all boils down to purpose. But, I am imagining you are working to create a scene. You definitely create vivid images with your sensory/concrete details!

One thought: I am wondering who these people are- so maybe some character development? A bit more dialogue maybe would help.

    1. Wow! What a clever, insightful and thought-provoking poem. When you’re “triggered” lots of regrets come to the surface. I’m glad you could vent and you did it in such a creative way. Take care of yourself and let those regrets speak to you and lead you to a better place.

    1. Erin,

I can completely relate- to all of these things. I struggled so much with reading, and now, I am a collector, some might say.

Your writing reflects well your appreciation of all things bookish!

    1. Amy,

I just turned 60, so your “teaser” caught my attention. Your poem reflects how so many of us feel, and in our culture, it feels like “elders” aren’t always revered.

Your use of dialogue and inner thinking create a sense of immediacy to this moment, and the metaphor of the old trees being discarded for something young and full of promise–so true.

      Thank you for this.

    1. Oh sorry. I didn’t notice that my comment was already posted. Can someone delete it and edit the other if possible? I remember I was able to edit comments before but somehow now I can’t. I’m so sorry for the mess 😦 Out of practice, I guess. New comments used to show up first ;0

    1. I’d like to leave a comment on your post at your blog, but i don’t seem able to. I clicked on “Comments” and nothing happened. I really liked it, and it made me wish I could still run and had real outdoors to run in.

    1. Hey, Joanne, today your link took me to two options: open in jetpack or continue in browser, neither of which is a link to your post. I’d love to read your spring offering today, so please submit your permalink. Thanks!

      1. Hello! Please leave comments for the author on their blog post, rather than here in the call for slices. The author of the post will not see your comments here! (And it makes navigating the call for slices more challenging). Thank you!
