Are You Taking Care of Yourself?

For the past two months my school district, like most places in the U.S., has been engaged in distance learning. Along with the switch to digital learning, we’ve worked hard to focus on connecting with kids, making sure they are safe and healthy, and are doing okay. It is our top priority. I’m sure it is a top priority for you when you check in with your students as well.

It is also important to take care of yourself while you are working so hard to take care of your students, families, and colleagues.

Today, our amazing school nurse sent out a tool that I didn’t even know I needed until I saw it. People say to take care of yourself all the time, but seeing it broken down this way was an aha moment for me. I realized something that I probably should have figured out a long time ago. Taking care of yourself is a lot of work.

Here is my version of the tool our wonderful school nurse, Lindsay Wilcox, generously gave me permission share with you:

If you’d like to print this, here is a link to the google slides version of it.

Healthy relationships, exercise, nutrition, sleep, and mental health are critical if we want to be the best teachers we can be, yet we rarely take time to fully realize how much work it takes. I am so grateful for this reminder as we head into the “home stretch” before the school year ends. Thank you Nurse Lindsay!
