Each year Deb Gaby helps select a reading theme for the school year at Milford Elementary School. This year, to kick off the BIG reading year, we hosted a carnival. Kids made book marks, had their faces painted with favorite book characters, read favorite books, and posed in a photo booth. Then they made picture frames to house their Read BIG photo. Lot of mementos and memories to keep reading, even in the thick of the school year.

We included a Write BIG station too. Here kids found words + pictures of writing ideas. Each grade level had a light bulb to create a collage inside and take with them to their grade level hall where the inspiration can keep giving in the weeks to come.

What kind of amazing reading themes are happening in your corner of the world? Please share!
Love the picture! My husband’s school had a photo booth with props at their staff meeting yesterday. Sounds like fun but I love adding the reading and writing theme to it!

Love your ideas, but we haven’t started yet, so will have to ask if anyone would like a reading theme. I’ve used the ‘lightbulb’ for displaying ideas before. Maybe that’s a good idea for my door! Thanks Ruth and Deb!
