Summer means a slower pace.
Summer means longer days to spend with family and friends.
Summer means more extra time to fall into a good book and write about the world around us.

As educators, summer rarely means time off. Ruth and I spent the first couple weeks of summer busy. She was speaking at Judson and All-Write and I was teaching a course at Penn State University’s Harrisburg Campus. Therefore, in an effort to take some time to breathe this summer, we’ve decided to take the month of July off from blogging here at Two Writing Teachers. (You’ll note this is a departure from what we’ve done the past two summers when we’ve hosted guest bloggers on Fridays.)
We know a lot of people missed the opportunity to link up to the weekly Slice of Life Story Challenge when we took a week off from blogging in April. Thanks to your feedback, we’ll still be hosting the Tuesday Slice of Life Story Challenge during the entire month of July. (I’ve pre-set the posts to launch on Tuesday mornings at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time.) However, other than the weekly calls for slice of life stories, we’ll be away from this blog for the next 31 days so we can enjoy time with our families, friends, and other endeavors.
In the meantime, I hope you will…
- Check out our blogroll, which is categorized at the bottom of our main page and at the bottom of every post. There are many other excellent bloggers who will continue to provide fresh content about literacy while we’re away.
- Use our archives to search for what you’re looking for. We’ve been blogging for over five years and have never taken a month off before — ever. Therefore, there’s lots of archived content on just about every aspect of writing workshop. Just type the key words you’re searching for (e.g., “writer’s notebooks,” “craft tables,” “poetry”) into the search bar. The search bar can be found by scrolling to the bottom of any page on our blog.
- Click around our other blogs, which we’ll be working on this month.
- Raising a Literate Human (That’s me.)
- Ruth Ayres Writes (That’s Ruth… obviously.)
- Rest and relax too!
Ahhhh much deserved enjoy!

This is the very first morning of “my” time off so I am reflecting (after a long walk and some good coffee on the porch) about the power of “time to stop and smell the roses and the coffee.”
