I love to get up early on Saturday mornings. When Stacey and I were working on the book it was a habit I developed. I could score a few hours on Saturday morning for writing which didn’t steal from family time. Now, a year after the book was complete, I still find myself getting up before everyone else on Saturday mornings.
Except for today.
Today I slept in. When I finally did get up a little after seven I paused outside my bedroom before going downstairs. Listening, I heard sweet little voices. I looked down the hall toward Sam and Stephanie’s rooms. Sam’s door stood open and Steph’s light tattled on them shining out from under her door. I shushed Andy when he came out of the bedroom. We listened to them playing. Sam started singing Stephanie a made-up lullaby. At the end of the song, Stephanie said, “Now you lay down and I’ll sing one for you.”
Andy and I stood in the hall listening to them. We smiled silently at each other. His eyes sparkled at the sweetness of their voices. In this moment I realized how blessed I am. I am part of a family who not only loves one another, but enjoys being together. What a very good way to start the day.

I love the line: “Sam’s door stood open and Steph’s light tattled on them shining out from under her door.”
The personification of the light “tattling” made it that much sweeter when it turned out they were playing by singing lullabyes to each other. What a delicious game to sneak in the wee hours of the morning! You most certainly are blessed, but I hope you also spent a moment patting yourself on the back for all you do to foster the sort of family that would experience such a beautiful moment.

I love when I get to watch my children from afar. Their conversations and imagination make me smile. I constantly ask myself how they became the amazing children they are. Thank you for sharing your Saturday morning moment.

For me the wonderful part of SOLSC is reading other slices, getting glimpses of other people lives, in many ways very different, yet having some common threads running through them.
Thank you for sharing this morning.

Thanks for letting me “eavesdrop” in on a tender family moment. It’s so rare to catch them in these moments of sweetness, yet that memory does linger in the back of our minds.
Hope the rest of the day went well.

It’s often interesting to me why things ‘come’ to us. For example, why this particular Saturday did you sleep in? It’s just like all the planets are in alignment, readying you for this sweet moment. I am skeptical that it’s just serendipity. Whatever it was, you were a lucky woman this am. Thanks for sharing this special story.
