Sunshine on a Plate (Ruth’s SOLS)

If there's no sunshine in the sky, we should put it on a plate (or in our hearts) instead.

When I posted my photo on March first, I fully expected it to be the last of the snow. It’s one of the things I like best about collecting slices throughout March — we get to welcome Spring. For a few days Spring visited, but she is long-gone now. The wind is howling. The sky is dark. The sun is hiding. Snow is in the forecast.

When Sam climbed up to the table for dinner  he said, “Oh good, sunshine on a plate.” I smiled because, really, if there’s not sunshine in the sky, it is up to us to bring it into our homes, right? Here’s to the sunshine in your heart.

  1. It has snowed a lot more this year where I live as well. I just got my snow studs off today since the April 1st deadline is approaching, but it was snowy again coming home from my parents on Monday. I was glad to have my studs on for that one!

I always love it when kids say something that make us stop and think. I am glad that your son gave you a moment like that.

  2. We have been hit by the snow monster as well. I love how something as simple as an orange can bring sunshine into your home. How sweet!

  3. Thank you for the wish, and for the nice slice(s) to smile about. And, thank you for all this month. It’s been such a lot of learning. Sorry for the snow. As I keep saying from Colorado, wish we had a little bit of it. There’s just plenty in the mountains.

  5. Ruth,
Sam already has a writerly way of naming things. I will surely think of “sunshine on a plate” the next time I slice up an orange. Looks like we have are going to have winter hanging around for a while longer here too. Thank you for helping me to look for the brightness.
