This is the seventh of seven posts in this week's Back to Basics BIG PICTURE SERIES.

I tend to have a lot of mini-charts for my students’ notebooks rather than hanging large ones around the room (these days). However, I thought this one was worthy of some wall space.

Essentially, these are the teaching points from the first four collecting minilessons of our Memoir Unit of Study this year. With all of this “back to basics” talking I’ve done, I realized I should get “back to basics” myself and start creating these strategy charts and posting them around the room again so that kids can reference the strategies they’ve learned to help them generate writing.

The last bullet point on the chart reflects this Monday’s teaching point. Hence, it’ll be going up on Monday. I’ll reference the first three bullets during the Connection of my minilesson. Then, I’ll reference all four bullets during the Link of my minilesson.
