I love Eve Merriam’s work. Here is one of my favorites, which I will be sharing with the teachers attending the Beginning Workshop Training that starts Monday.
A Lazy Thought
By Eve Merriam
There go the grownups
To the office,
To the store.
Subway rush,
Traffic crush;
Hurry, scurry,
Worry, flurry.
No wonder
Grown ups
Don’t grow up
Any more.
It takes a lot
Of slow
To grow.
Isn’t this so very true? It does take a lot of slow to grow . . . I love this reminder as I’m ready to step into a new school year.

I love Eve Merriam too. Great sentiment here. My favorite poem of hers is By the Shores of Pago Pago (http://writersalmanac.publicradio.org/index.php?date=2005/01/06). But, in searching for a copy of it, I came across about 20 poems of hers that I like almost as much.
