As I’ve stated many times, I’m not a great poet. It’s an area I’m trying to improve upon. However, how hard is a list poem, right? Well, here goes my shot at a list poem about the way I talk and the way most Rhode Islanders pronounce words. (I’ve noticed that I really do have a New York accent!) This list poem is in DRAFT form… I’m going to keep adding to it as I notice the difference in the way I speak, which makes me stand out as someone who’s not from here.
They Say – I Say
They say office
and I say aw-fiss.
They say talk
and I say tawk.
They say bottle
and I say boddle.
They say New York
and I say New Yawk… because that’s where I’m from!

🙂 Noo Yawk works for me!
I’ve never heard ‘boodle’ before, but hey – right now I’m in Scotland – in Glasgow where the accent is almost as thick as it is in the highlands. Right now, I could probably understand someone from Brooklyn talking fast, my ears are so wide open!

Hee, hee. When I lived in Rhode Island, briefly, my whole family was startled by the number of people who would ask us: “Are you all set?” I don’t know if that’s only R.I., but even now, we say it to each other and grin sometimes.
Hey, you New Yorkers can say rawk on instead of rock on, right?
