When I moved from New York City to Rhode Island I brought some furniture with me that I knew I’d no longer use in my apartment. However, I thought it might be nice to put these items in my new classroom, which is exactly what I did with my old coffee table and the bulletin board that used to be in my kitchen. Now they’re part of a “Strategy Lesson and Conferring Coffee Table Area.” I have a little stool behind the coffee table for me to sit on and the students (no more than four) will use the floor pads so they don’t have to sit directly on the floor when they’re working with me. My favorite thing about this coffee table is that it has two drawers (on the far side, which you cannot see) so I can store pens, pencils, markers, post-its and other conferring necessities. 🙂
