For Returning Slicers: As you know, this challenge is in its 17th year. Despite launching it here and in my classroom in March 2008, I still worry about how I will make space for this kind of daily writing + intensive commenting. Every. Single. Year. I’ve shared this with several of you who’ve contacted me with your concerns as you gear up for another month of writing. A couple of things to remember:
- We’re in this together. While many of us slice on Tuesdays year-round and have a daily writing habit (in service of teaching or books we’re writing), it feels different than participating in a daily challenge. Scheduling a dedicated Slicing time (which could be divided into time to write and time to comment) might be useful. You can find more tips for creating a consistent writing habit here.
- Remember to be inspired. The wonderful part of being a member of this writing community is that inspiration is all around us. Yes, the co-author team may highlight one particular Slicer’s writing in the daily calls for slice of life stories, but there are MANY sources of inspiration if you need to get un-stuck!
Register: If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes to fill out the sign-up form if you plan to write with us for the 17th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge, which begins this Friday.
Help Us Grow the Challenge: Share my overview post and our podcast with friends or colleagues joining the individual challenge this March. For Classroom SOLSC info in April, direct them to Leah’s post.
For Now: Please share your slice-of-life story below.
3 more days until the 17th Annual Slice of Life Writing Challenge. I am gearing up with a teaser poem. Sneak Peek of March’s Slice of Life Series can be accessed here: https://beyondliteracylink.blogspot.com/2024/02/sneak-peek-of-marchs-slice-of-life.html
