July Blogging Break

My colleagues and I are taking a vacation from this blog during the month of July. We’ll be recharging our batteries, planning and brainstorming, and coming up with even more great ideas to share with our fantastic community of teachers and writers.

But don’t worry, we’ve got lots to keep you going in the meantime!

SLICE OF LIFE STORY CHALLENGE:

WRITE a slice of life story on your own blog. SHARE a link to your post in the comments section. GIVE comments to at least three other SOLSC bloggers.

Our  Slice of Life Story Challenge  posts will continue every Tuesday as usual, of course! Anna will be here every Tuesday to host SOL Tuesdays.

If you haven’t sliced yet, July is the perfect time to try it for the first time. It will change your writing life.  Simply write a story from your life on your own blog, and then on Tuesdays, share a link to your story in the comments section on our SOLSC post. Comment on at least three other posts, and enjoy all the comments that you will receive in return.

OUR NEXT BLOG SERIES:

Classroom Environments Blog Series - #TWTBlog

We’ll return to regular posting on our blog on August 1st, when we kick off our blog series about classroom environments. This series will come just at the right time, as you start setting up your classroom and thinking about ways to make the 2015-2016 school year the best year ever.

Please mark your calendar for a Twitter Chat on Monday, August 10th from 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. EDT. Just search and tag #TWTBlog to join the conversation.

Speaking of blog series, we’ve now hosted seven week-long blog series in the past two years.  In case you missed them, here are links to the end of the series post (which will link you back to each post in that series) as well as archives of the Twitter Chats.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

Amidst your summertime fun, we hope you will:

  • Check out our blogroll, which is categorized at the bottom of our main page and at the bottom of every post. There are many other excellent bloggers who will continue to provide fresh content about literacy while we’re away.

  • Use our archives to search for what you need. We have years of archived content on nearly every aspect of writing workshop. Just type the keyword(s) you’re searching for (e.g., “poetry,” “storytelling,” “mentor texts”) into the search bar. The search bar can be found by scrolling to the bottom of any page on our blog.

  • ICYMI our Author Spotlight Series, you can check it out now! Read inspiring blog posts about the path to publication and the writing process from authors like Karen Beaumont, Mike Curato, Ralph Fletcher, Val Jones, Trudy Ludwig, Melissa Stewart, Augusta Scattergood

  • Click around our other blogs:

  • Follow us on Twitter (you can see our Twitter feeds at the bottom of our main page):

  • I’m one of those font-obsessed people. I thought I’d compile a list of ten fonts you can use for classroom communication (with your students or with families) that look cuter than Comic Sans.  All of the fonts are available for free on DaFont.

Two Writing Teachers - Fabulous Fonts for Classroom Communciations
