Are you ready to unplug?

4 Days - Doug Unplugged_4 I’m very excited about Screen Free Week, which begins on Monday, April 29th.  I’m hoping it gives a lot of people, especially kids, a chance to reset their media habits.  I tend to think getting kids to reduce their dependency on technology is about setting limits (e.g., where and when it can be used) and by modeling the behaviors we want to see (in our kids) ourselves.  What do you think is a good way to teach kids (and ourselves) to unplug from media in an effort to interact with others, not just screens?

Today, I’m delighted to share a review of Dan Yaccarino’s new book Doug Unplugged as part of the Random House Children’s Book Unplug and Read Blog Tour.  The blog tour was inspired by Yaccarino’s book, which is about a robot who longs to experience life first-hand rather than learning about it through media.  He defies his parents and unplugs, which allows him to reach the richness the off-line world holds.  You can win a free copy of Doug Unplugged if you leave a comment on my review over at Raising a Literate Human.

Finally, if you missed my initial post about Screen Free Week, then click here to read it now.
