Writing Institute

The Summer Institute for the Teaching of Writing at Teachers College begins in just a few short weeks.  This year, I’ve decided to take advanced sessions that focus on the primary grades.  I just got my course placements and was thrilled to have received my first choices.  I’ll be taking:

  • “Assessment-Based Writing Instruction: Use a Study of Student Work to Generate Goals and Systems for Recording Progress Towards Those Goals” with Carl Anderson
  • “Toolkits, Charts and other Resources That Support Writers in Revision and Writerly Craft” with Kristi Mraz

Will you be attending the July Writing Institute?  If you are, I’d love to meet up before one of the keynotes if our schedules mesh.  (NOTE: The keynotes will be given at two separate times this year and therefore not everyone’s schedule looks the same, as it has in the past.)  Please leave a comment below if you’ll be there.

  1. I will be in the upper grade sessions. In the morning, I’m working with Sara Kugler and then with Carl in the afternoon. Very excited! After hearing what everyone is doing, I’m wishing that I could be in all of the sessions! Everything sounds so wonderful. Please post if you have a plan for meeting. Enjoy your sessions!

  2. I’ve never met you before, but I’ve been following (although silently at times), for a little over a year. I’d love to meet up— but I’m in the upper grades as well. Maybe we could plan something at the end of the day when everyone is free?

  3. Stacey, we met briefly last year at one of the keynotes. I’ll be there again, but in the upper grades sections with Colleen and Mary Ehrenworth (sooo excited!), so we’ll be on different schedules. If you do plan a different meeting time, I’d love to be there and hear what everyone is learning.

  4. Stacey,
I have lunch at 1 and keynote speech from 3 to 4. Does that work with your schedule? After four years, I finally made it into Colleen Cruz’s session.

  5. Stacey,

Love your blog and visit almost daily. I will be at the July Writing Institute with two colleagues. We teach middle school in Wisconsin.

    Hope to see you there!

  6. I wonder if instead of paying for the SI at Columbia, what would it be like to join a Writing Project site and let them offer you a stipend? Sadly, this might end soon but instead of a course what it would be like to join a community of teachers?
