Poetry in the Classroom

I was recently invited to write a post for the Stenhouse Blog. It just went live today. It’s a compilation of ideas about how to infuse poetry into the classroom.

  1. Stacey, I am totally with you on the rhyme issue. It’s the first thing kids tell you about when you ask about poetry, and the hardest thing for them to handle successfully as developing writers. There are so many poetry forms that provide the necessary scaffolding young writers need to get started and experience a successful poetic interaction. It avoids the moon June/ spoon syndrome where kids choose any old words so long as it rhymes.
    Great advice!
