An Original Poem for Poetry Friday:
Writing in My PJ’s
I think I said too much
When I told my kids
About my morning rituals
yesterday.
I told them I rise at 5:15 a.m.
So I can write
And read the nytimes.com and projo.com
Before I get start getting ready at six.
I think I said too much
When one of my kids
Asked me if I write
Every morning in my pajamas.
I am a truthful person.
I’m nothing if I’m not honest.
So when I replied to the pajama question
I said, “Of course – yes!”
The Back Story: This was all the outgrowth of a Social Studies Lesson on the Election. I explained, to my class, that I don’t watch much t.v. I told them I read the paper online in the morning. Somehow, that meshed with yesterday’s elapsed time Problem of the Day that involved how much time I need to get ready from the moment I wake up to the moment I leave my home in the mornings. Let’s just say, that when I told them I write in my pajamas in the mornings, they were in hysterics. Did they think I sleep in my dress clothes (that I wear to school)?!?!? Gotta love the thinking and humor nine year-olds, right?

I’ve been known to write in my pajamas. My kids think it’s weird and a little bit scary. Thanks for the poem.

That is really cute! It is so endearing the way kids idolize us and think we wouldn’t do something so ordinary as wear pjs and sit down to write before getting dressed. Your turned it into a beautiful poem!
