Hosting a Writing Night

My October newsletter is being translated right now. I expect to be sending it home to my students’ families sometime next week. I’m excited about it since I’m announcing a Wednesday Writing Night for late November in there. My colleagues, Kate and Felicia, and I will be hosting it for all of the fourth grade parents. To that end, we opened the meeting up to other members of our school’s staff and MANY are interested and are planning to attend. (That is so awesome to me since it’s totally optional for them to attend. If that’s not dedication, then I don’t know what is!)

Anyway, here’s the text from the newsletter in case you’re interested in learning more about the night we’re planning. Do post a comment if you’ve done something like this before, since I haven’t, and would love to get some feedback, tips, etc.

Please join other fourth grade parents for a Wednesday Night Workshop (Wed., 11/28 from 6:00—7:30 p.m.) on Writer’s Notebooks.

This workshop will allow us, as parents and teachers, to discuss how we can help each and every child live like a writer this year by using his or her writer’s notebook on a daily basis. We’ll also take some time to work together on crafting some of our own writing.

Please join us for a Wednesday evening filled with writing, the sharing of stories, and some light refreshments.

Note: If you have a journal or writer’s notebook of own that you keep, then please feel free to bring it so you can share your writing, or tips for using a notebook, with the rest of the group.
