Happy Monday Morning! It’s day three of the Seventh Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge!
The six of us were communicating over e-mail yesterday. First, we were celebrating all of YOU. We’re delighted to be part of such a vibrant community of writers. So, thank you for being here! Second, we were talking about captcha images.
Captcha images are most often seen on Blogger blogs. They’re numbers or words a commenter has to type to prove they’re a human.
The six of us would like to ask those of you who have captcha images turned-on on your blogs to turn them off this month. Here’s why:
1) Captcha images are hard to see when someone is reading and commenting on blog posts from a smart phone.
2) It’s hard to get the letter combinations, especially if there are capital and lowercase letters, correct.
3) It’s time-consuming to input captchas.
We want to be welcoming to each other. If you’d be kind enough to turn-off the captchas, we hope it will encourage more people to leave comments on your blog.
This is where you share a link to your own writing. If you’re sharing your students’ slice of life stories, please leave that link on Anna’s Classroom Challenge post.
ESSENTIAL INFORMATION (This is mostly the same as the past two days. If you’re a seasoned Slicer just scroll down to “Be Inspired.” If you’re new to this Challenge, then please read this section carefully.)
- Please use the SAME email/username information on all of your March comments. This makes tracking the number of slice of life stories you write more manageable for Robin, our Giveaway Guru.
- In order to be in the running for a prize at the end of the month, you must leave the link to your slice of life story by 11:59 p.m. EST.
- Please play fair and leave only one link each day.
- If you’ve never posted a comment on TWT before, or if your comment contains more than one hyperlink, then your comment will be held for moderation. I will approve blog comments that don’t post automatically throughout the day. Therefore, there is no need to re-post your comment if it doesn’t appear after you click “post comment.”
- If you use the same username/email to log in when you leave your comment, then your comments should appear instantly in the future.
- Tech-related questions? Contact our Tech Support Team.
- Beth Scanlon: scanlon.fefee[at]gmail[dot]com
- Donna Smith: djtsmith[at]gmail[dot]com
- If you haven’t filled out the participant information form, please do so today. This allows us to keep a Slicer List on Twitter and to expedite prizes in April. Only the TWT co-authors, Robin Sheldon (our Giveaway Guru) and Bonnie Kaplan (the head of the Welcome Wagon) have access to this information.
- Please include the permalink (aka: unique URL) to your post when you leave a comment. Click here and scroll to the “New to Slicing” section of the blog post where you’ll find two visuals that illustrate an example and a non-example of a permalink.
- If you link your slice of life story incorrectly today, you’ll receive a reply to your comment from either me, Beth Scanlon, Donna Smith, or from one of the TWT co-authors.
- Each day you’ll find a section called “BE INSPIRED,” which will follow each day’s essential information. That section will include something like a link to someone’s slice of life story, a quote about writing, etc. Please scroll down for today’s writing inspiration.
- If you’re tweeting, please use this hashtag, #sol14, on your Slice of Life Story Challenge tweets. (Click here for a Twitter List of all 2014 Slicers.)
- If this is the first time you’re participating in the Slice of Life Story Challenge, please let us know that when you share your link as a comment.
- Should you have questions about getting started with this Challenge, please contact one of our incredible concierges.
- If your last name begins with A – M, your concierge is LeAnn Carpenter (aka: Elsie) – leannecarpenter[at]sbcglobal[dot]net.
- If your last name begins with N– Z, your concierge is Amanda Villagomez (aka: Mrs. V.) – amandavillagomez[at]gmail[dot]com.
BE INSPIRED:
Amanda Villagomez (@aa_villagomez) wrote a post, “Sunday Lunch at Denny’s,” earlier this year. I was captivated by the way she painted such vivid images with her words. She composed a beautiful piece of writing about an ordinary event. You can do this too! If you’re looking for inspiration, read over Amanda’s blog post and then recreate a scene from your own life with specific words that will help your reader feel as though they’re alongside you.
