Write, Share, Give: SOL Time
Dear SOLSC writing community,
We, at TWT, have been gearing up for our annual March Slice of Life Story Challenge, for some time now. March is drawing closer with every passing day. Taking part in the March challenge is both a treat (you get to write everyday – with instant, positive feedback!), and a challenge (write every, single day?! yikes!). And gearing up to get a classroom full of SOLSC writers takes even more planning and preparation. Never fear, the TWT team is always here to help you get ready and smooth the way. Stacey’s post yesterday is full of important information you will need about linking up and joining in. On Thursday, Anna will be posting about the classroom challenge, so be sure to stop by and book mark that entry as well.
Notice the cheery new SOLSC image? How could you not?! It would be wonderful to see it included when you slice. Last year, when we shared our “final favorite slices” in my classroom, one of my students brought along an orange and introduced each Slice with a slice of orange – it was a wonderful visual, for each of our Slices is truly a gift we give to ourselves as writers… and to each other to savor.
“Writing is an extreme privilege but it’s also a gift. It’s a gift to yourself and it’s a gift of giving a story to someone.” Amy Tan

Love the orange slice. Truth be told I gave my blog a face lift last March and chose a color to match the image from last year. Will I do a switch to orange for next month? Not sure.
Today I share a slice about one word that provoked so much more for me today.

Love the orange slice!
How do we create a culture in our schools where children love to read, where we find them with their books open they are deep in thought? As teachers we want to and can create classrooms where books call students’ names. And where students hear and welcome the call!
