Thanks again for hosting the challenge. I learned that “slices of life” are everywhere, but sometimes it’s difficult finding the words to share those moments. The daily practice of putting it all together has been helpful.

Ruth–thank you for nudging me to do this. It was amazing. I learned so much about writing and discovered a powerful writing community. The challenge has also caused me to see myself a little differently as a writer.
As for my thoughts on the challenge coming to an end, I relied on my class at school to help me sum it up.

Sorry about hitting send before I added the reflective portion! My post on 3/30 was somewhat reflective. As I said on that post, I will miss the community I built both with my students who participated in our class SOLS and with the other people on TwoWritingTeachers, whose posts I read and who read and commented on mine. I found myself looking forward to the time in my day when I could engage with all of you online. About my own writing. I really needed the encouragement to write every day again. I needed the encouragement to slow down my days a little to think about what was happening my life and share I with others. I was reminded recently that writers need time–and part of that time comes from slowing down, thinking, pondering. Slowing down. Writing. I needed the reminder and I appreciated the chance to get back into writing. I think I will be okay now–maybe not daily writing, but I think it will be regular now. And I think I might be over the dread I’ve felt toward writing since my last big project. So, thank you!

I loved how much I learned from other writers this month…phrases, poetry, sources of inspiration, the power of a well-chosen photo to accompany a text. There are writers I will revisit again to take a peek into their world and gain inspiration on days when I am lacking. This is a wonderful community of writers, teachers, and learners. I feel fortunate to have found my way here.

I learned that I really need time to focus in order to write well. When I am busy or have a million things going on my writing reflects that. If I were going to write seriously I would need quite time every day to devote tot he task. I know many people get up early to find that quiet time, perhaps I will need to try that instead of sleeping in!

I’m feeling very accomplished to have sliced all 31 days. I had my students slicing for the first half of the month, but had to take it off their plate because of other curriculum demands. They made it through the first two weeks.

Wow, I never thought both so much could happen in 31 days, and yet go by so quickly at the same time. Thank you for the experience. It was very good experience to capture both the lives of my family and amazing to see my students excitement as they too starting to pick out small moments in their day. Thank you!

31/31 – Another great challenge – I felt so much more confident and I learned something about what I need to do to make sure there is space in my life for authentic writing. I did some reflecting in my journal and on my blog
And I have an idea for using the slice of life technique as a part of my teacher evaluation plans this next month.

31/31 days taught me that I can do it. That I can make writing a priority and do it every day. I always heard people talk about professional writer’s taking time to write each day, but I couldn’t see how it was ever going to be possible. And then I did it for a month. It wasn’t long. But I still did it every day and can do it daily if I want.

Comment reposted from the 25+ days comments:
I learned that all writing does not need to be well-developed and long in order to be effective and poignant. I also learned that I like comments more than I thought I did. I learned that I could do this — that I could commit to this and see it through until the end, no matter what kind of craziness might enter my life. Finally, I learned that I don’t just want to write, I need to. Every day if not more.
