You asked about school in summer in Australia -well the school year ends in late December which is the start of summer here and recommences in late January which is still summer. In fact, February is often the hottest month of the year. Just when everyone is re-adjusting to school returning we get whacked with a spate of scorching hot days. Fortunately our schools are air conditioned, but it is still tough, particularly on those students just beginning their school lives. I recall the length of summer break in America from my time working in New York. Such a break! Here it lasts a little over five weeks. The school year is approximately 220 days. My first day back next year is on January 28, talking to 400 hundred teachers about -writing! It is both daunting and exciting at the same time.
Hope this explains the seasonal difference between our respective parts of the world.
My slice is a 30 second conversation with a student that broke my heart today. I didn’t want to go into too much description because I have parents that read my blog, but to watch his freckled face as he told me the words just tore through my heart.
Early morning swim in the icy waters of Port Phillip Bay kick starts the day. Brrhh… Seems a little strange in the midst of a pre summer heat wave. Strange, yet wonderful.

Nice to remember to share today with you. I’m in the second week of writing a book with National Novel Writing Month for November. (NaNoWriMo) I’m into my second week and I’m keeping up with my daily word count. Anyone try this?
