Ruth’s SOLS: Saturday Morning

A few minutes before 7:00 am and I hear the pitter-patter of feet making their way down the stairs.  I look up and see two giant smiles, “Good morning, Mom,” they say in unison.

“Good morning!” I respond as they run to hug me, “You guys are up early.”

The five year old begins pleading her case, “We know, but it looks like rain and we really really really wanna ride our bikes.”

The three year old offers support, “Yeah, really really really we do.”

They were right.  It was going to rain soon.  Their smiles melted my heart.  “Okay,” I said, “get your shoes on.”

And off they went:  gym shoes, jammies, and bike helmets to ride until it rained.

The rain held off longer thanwe expected and finally around 9:00 I coaxed them in for breakfast.  They refused to take off their gear . . . so they shoveled cereal in with bike helmets still on.  “We’re in a hurry,” they told me.  “We have to ride our bikes more before it rains.”  And off they went . . . for a few more minutes until the gray skies let loose.
