I realized the other day that it was unfair to only provide extra mentor poems, from my mentor poems binder, to kids when I conferred with them. Hence, in addition to handing out a packet of mentor poems after each minilesson, I also put together this new bulletin board, broken-out by category, so that kids could access mentor poems, when they needed them. Plus, I cut out copies of each poem and put them on the board so that kids could also look for what inspires them.

I’m a children’s poet who has written hundreds of poems (Google Josie’s Poetry), and all of these poems are with a publisher for publishing for schools. However, I have never heard of a mentor poem. Is this an American expression? I would love to have this explained to me because I may have missed something, ha ha.
