Stacey’s Second of Eight Poems
My best friend had a baby on March 10th, 2008. The distance between us (she lives in Southern CT), coupled with my busy work schedule, meant that I didn’t get down to see her until yesterday. I thought about taking the train since my neck has really been bothering me, but I had a fire in my belly… something to prove to myself. This poem explains my motivation for driving there and back in one day, which everyone thought was a crazy idea.
A day later I’m having a lot of neck and back pain, but in my mind, which I’m going to have to deal with asap. However, in my mind, I couldn’t be prouder of myself.
My Mom e-mailed me the following message this morning, on behalf of her and my Dad.
Good for you. We are both very, very proud of you. Who would have thought a year ago that you could do this !!!!
Mom
Her note to me is what truly inspired me to write this poem.

I love this! Congratulations on your drive, I’ll bet you had a lovely time seeing your friend and meeting her new baby!

I used to be a big city girl too…from PA…and I had a car in high school and I never drove it…my sister did! Now…that I am a mom…I love driving in the car…especially when I am alone and the music is blairing (hehe)

what a fun poem — i love how little things can identify us.
btw — do you know i drive 33.5 miles one way to work everyday? I then tally between 300 – 400 miles for work-related driving each month. funny how different parts of our lives are, yet how much alike we are at the same time!

I love it! I totally identify with your feelings, too. Even though I wasn’t a big-city girl, I always hated driving after I totaled my first car. It took a long time to get back that independence and the desire to drive. Good for you!

Funny how a car can give us independence, isn’t it?
Such a modern thought.
Thanks
