uplifting words.

I started reading Penny Kittle’s book, The Greatest Catch, yesterday.  It is fantastic — I could hardly put it down!  In her introduction, she shares these words, which I think are most uplifting on a Monday morning:

  1. “Lots of times you can go home after working all day with nothing to show for it, but you’re still up early and ready to go on the next.  Something calls to you and makes you want to get back on the water and try again.  That happens time and again in teaching.  The kids wear me out by the end of the day, but when the alarm rings I can’t wait to be with them again.”
  2. “You can fish your whole life and still get out played on a particular day.”
  3. “Someone comes along to enforce the rules only rarely, so it’s up to individuals to do what’s right . . . When you’re teaching you’re going to see people who cut corners, don’t work as hard as they should, or just complain all the time about everything.  I believe you’ve got to do what’s right, every single day of your life, even if the rest of the crowd isn’t.  Teaching is about honor and goodness and mercy.  It really is.  And no one will be watching you most of the time.  You either live up to the calling or this profession or you don’t, and most likely no one will ever know but you.  But it matters because the kids are counting on you.”

I could actually type her entire introduction as uplifting words this Monday morning.  That last quote I posted on Inspiring Readers & Writers awhile back & Penny stumbled across it.  She left a warm and genuine comment & later posted as a “guest blogger” for me.  Click here to read her challenge & perhaps be inspired to write & share this Writer’s Notebook Wednesday.
