Day 1 of the March SOLSC #SOL25

  • Welcome (or welcome back) to the Slice of Life Story Challenge community!
  • I’m commending your commitment to being part of this online writing community for a month and applauding you for taking on this writing experience–it’s truly transformative!
Cream background with black writing. Text encourages people to sign up to take the 18th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted by Two Writing Teachers.

Today marks the first day of the 18th annual Two Writing Teachers March Slice of Life Story Challenge! Some of you are joining us for the first time this year. Others have been here for a handful of years. A few of you have even been here since the very beginning. No matter how many times you’ve participated–whether this year is your first or your tenth or your eighteenth–we’re so glad you’re part of the Slicer community!

I’m excited to join the challenge for my eleventh year as a writer and third year as a co-host for the TWT Co-Author Team. I’ll be posting daily for the first six days of March before passing the baton to our next co-host.

During the first half of the challenge, we’ll share a daily tip at the end of the announcements section. Additionally, you’ll find a section called “BE INSPIRED” after each day’s announcements, featuring a link to a slice-of-life story and sometimes a quote about writing.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Write. Share. Give.
  • A warm welcome to the new Slicers joining us this year! Please include “I’m a first-year Slicer” in your comments for the next few days so our longstanding community members can greet you.
  • Please complete this year’s sign-up form by 11:59 p.m. EST today. The form will close tomorrow morning, March 2. Participation for thirty-one days is vital to uphold the spirit of the month-long challenge.
  • The daily “Call for Slice of Life Stories” starts at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time (New York time zone). We consider the day to end at midnight Eastern Time because we have participants from six continents. Comments can close as early as midnight the next day after the post has been live for 24 hours. Usually, the daily call for slice-of-life stories stays open until the following day because our co-author team is asleep at midnight. If you share your slice-of-life story link after 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, please post it in the next day’s call for slice-of-life stories.
  • Multi-Lit Fridays are back this year! Participants are encouraged to blog in another language. The first Multi-Lit Friday will be on March 7.

BE INSPIRED

Our first inspirational post of the month comes to us from Anna Barrick with a recent Tuesday Slice of Life post she wrote called “A Tidal Wave of Realizations” in which she captures all of the feelings of March: excitement, nervousnessness, and hope.

Anna’s honesty and vulnerability–wrapped into a story about her Tuesday writing–reflects the emotions so many of us feel as we turn the calendar page to March once again.
