Time Away

My daughter, Isabelle, was obsessed with turning five-and-a-half. I couldn’t imagine what the big deal was about her half-birthday. Finally, I asked her why she was excited. Her response:

Because I start Kindergarten the month after I turn 5 1/2!

The start of Kindergarten has been one of two sources of excitement bubbling up in our home for the past few months. Isabelle, my husband, and I are looking forward to welcoming a new member of our family into this world later this month. As a result, today feels like an appropriate time to temporarily sign-off from Two Writing Teachers.

I’ve chosen to take a four-month maternity leave from blogging, consulting, and writing because 2017 promises to be a busy year. In addition to expanding my family, Lynne Dorfman and I will begin writing a new book for Stenhouse Publishers once the new year rolls around. The working title is WELCOME TO WRITING WORKSHOP. It will be available in late 2018/early 2019.

While I will miss this online community, I need to take a blogging break so I can devote myself fully to my family. In my absence, Dana Murphy will field all general TWT-related questions. I want to thank all of my brilliant colleagues, Anna, Beth, Betsy, Dana, Deb, Kathleen, Lisa, and Melanie, since they will be picking up my slack while I’m away. They’ve already planned the November Blog Series, a Throwback Week in December, and our annual One Little Word (OLW) Week in January.

See you back here on TWT in mid-January!

      1. Just think about all the new stories you will have to blog about later. I always say without my kids and my job, I would not have a thing to write about!! Best wishes – enjoy every second!!!

  2. Take all the time you need to take it all in and really experience this new baby, while still taking care of a very lively young lady. Having two kids is rough at first, but an absolute joy down the road. Thank you for all your efforts for those of us who slice, and for all that you contribute to TWT. We know that you’ll be back and that your colleagues will more than rise to the occasion. Best wishes and congratulations.

  5. I’m glad you are taking this break. I was afraid you were going to try to do it all. You are Super Woman, but there are times when it’s necessary to take a break. This is certainly one of those times. Enjoy that new baby boy. I do hope you will be sharing pics on FB.
