Where am I?

Look who I spent the evening listening to…

Yes, that is Maggie Stiefvater, YA novelist and one of my personal mentors when it comes to crafting a story. Later I’ll share some of the cool things she says.

Tonight, though, check out the latest addition to my notebook…

I’m going to fall asleep thinking about writing. (I supposed that’s not much different than any other night!)

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this. She came to Michigan the following day and I had been thinking about going and taking my 12-year-old aspiring writer. We made the trip to our local independent bookstore and it was so worth it. I have to say, part of what made me sort out our schedule to make it happen (it involved a complex mom-taxi schedule adjustment) was your comment about going to sleep thinking about writing. I thought if that was how you felt after listening to Maggie – then I needed to make sure my daughter and I were both there. Thanks! – Kristin

  2. How very cool! I’m jealous! 😉
Students are missing you! In fact, you were the source of conversation during Writing Workshop today for a brief moment…..Then I cracked the whip and made them re-focus! 😉

Today some said, “Where’s that ONE lady?”
“You mean Mrs. Ayres?” I asked.
“Yeah, she’s cool!” was D’s response.

I kept thinking, then, about what makes a teacher “cool” in a student’s eyes (not that you’re not just super cool and stylish and all that!). But I thought about how students long for someone who sincerely BELIEVES IN THEM, ACCEPTS THEM, MEETS THEM WHERE THEY ARE AND PUSHES THEM TO GREATER HEIGHTS!!!

Thank you for being super cool with our kids!!!!!
