Summer Writing Camp

My summers away at sleep away camp were some of the best of my life.  However, sleep away camp gave way to summer internships, which eventually gave way to jobs.  Ah, the passage of time and how our summers change!  Ssince 2005, I have spent at least one week of every summer engaged in professional development.  By the time Labor Day rolled around, I always felt like one of the best weeks of my summer vacation was spent writing at the summer institute I attended. (Vacations with my family rank right up there with professional development weeks, but they’re fabulous for a different reason.)

This summer author Kate Messner is offering a FREE (Yes, you read that right!) summer writing camp for teachers and librarians.  I linked to it on our Facebook page around 10 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday.  Knowing that it was late and that not everyone uses Facebook regularly, I had to write a blog post about it too.  “Teachers Write” begins on Monday, June 4th, which means you only have a few days left to sign up.  (The sign-up process is easy.  Instructions can be found on Messner’s blog.)  Each week of “Teachers Write” will start off with a minilesson on Mondays.  There will be opportunities for quick writes, q&a, and much more each week.

If you want to gain access to some incredible professional development without having to write a check or go through airport security, then Messner’s virtual summer writing camp is the kind of professional development you need to sign up for today!

  1. Thanks for sharing this, Stacey. I follow Kate on Twitter, and was excited to find up about this great opportunity for teachers to support each other to make the most of the summer months! I signed up.

  2. Thank you, Stacey! Just signed up. I can’t wait for this to start. Even though I have a busy summer (major move back to South America) I am looking forward to stealing away some time to write and take advantage of feedback from others and to, hopefully, give helpful feedback as well. Regards!
