SOLSC + Thinking About Slicing in a New Way

Last week my friend posted a link on her Facebook page to a blog called Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures.  Specifically, it was a link to a post entitled “Public Toilets vs. Newly Potty Trained Girls and Boys.”  I clicked on the link and was transported to a post about public bathroom experiences with toddlers.  The post has text and illustrations, most of which contain speech bubbles, which further enhance the words the author wrote.  Crass as the post was, it was also hysterical!  I laughed so hard that I cried.

The next morning I returned to Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures and perused other posts on the blog and noticed that they’re actually slices of life.  These aren’t the typical slices of life most of us write on a weekly basis since they include digital illustrations.  However, once I realized the writer of this blog, Amber Dusick, was creating slices of life, I knew I had to link to her blog this week.  While you may not actually include digital illustrations in your slice this week (since it takes a whole heck of a lot of time to create the pictures she creates), I wanted to share her blog with you to inspire you to think about slicing in another way.

  27. Glad to see that folks are enjoying Amber’s blog. I liked her fan page on Facebook and have been getting hilarious updates that way too. She truly has a gift for finding the humor in everyday situations, doesn’t she?

  30. I loved this post, Stacey because it made me laugh. I needed that today! I even went and subscribed to the Illustrated with Crappy Pictures blog. I’m looking forward to more good laughs now and then.

    My SOL is connected to your post on the 750 word challenge. I’m thinking of joining but boy that would be like running a marathon when all you’re used to is walking! May be the push I need to get going on my writing.

  35. Since my daughter and I were just discussing the in’s & out’s & challenging nature of potty training (her oldest is 2 1/2), this hits my home hilariously. I have warned her to wait as long as possible, so sending this to her might just convince. You’re right, it’s a slice of life I won’t soon forget, & now get to relive a bit (thank heaven only a bit) with my granddaughters. Thanks for the enormous laugh this late evening, Stacey!
