SPORK Giveaway Results

Thanks, everyone for the comments. It’s fun to read random facts about each other and strengthens our community. Nancy Steineke in Reading & Writing Together: Collaborative Literacy in Action (target grades 6 -12; Heinemann, 2002), suggests giving students a random question to begin group conversation. It breaks the ice, gets everyone talking, and helps them find connections to one another. This makes moving into the discussion more natural and comfortable. I think I’ll add: “Favorite food to eat with a spork” to my list of random questions.

  1. I just have to share that I once saw Nancy Steineke in a local Whole Foods (she lives in a town near mine) and bombarded the poor woman like she was a rock star. She had to ask how i knew her because she thought I might be a former student. I explained I was just a fan of her professional books for teachers and had seen her at NCTE. You published authors, who inspire the rest of us out here, deserve to be treated like rock stars for the work you do… but probably also deserve to grocery shop in peace 🙂
