Fall Literacy Conferences

KSRA 2010

Ruth and I presented twice at the Keystone State Reading Association Conference this past Sunday and Monday.  We met lots of great people at the conference and would like to thank the folks who attended and asked great questions at our sessions.

Next month, we’ll be presenting at two conferences: Literacy for All and the NCTE Annual Convention.  Here are the specifics for what we’ll be presenting at each conference:

Literacy for All: Monday, November 15th

Providence, RI

  • 10:30 a.m. – noon:  “Inspiring Reluctant Writers in the Elementary Classroom” (Grades PreK – 4)
  • 3:30 – 5:00  p.m.:  “Refining Reflective Practice Through Blogging: Being a Wide-Awake Educator in the Writing Workshop”  (Grades 3-6)

NCTE: Friday, November 19th

Orlando, FL

  • 12:30 – 1:45 p.m.:  “Refining Reflective Practice: Being a Wide-Awake Educator in Writing Workshop” (all instructional levels)

As you’ll notice, we’re presenting two similar presentations, on reflective practice, at Literacy for All and NCTE.  The major difference between the presentations is that there will be a greater emphasis on using technology to enhance reflective practice at Literacy for All since our session is part of the Technology Strand.  In addition, the reflective practice presentation at Literacy for All is slightly longer than the one at NCTE.

We hope you’ll join us at one of our sessions if you’re planning to attend Literacy for All and/or NCTE.

  1. Hi Stacey and Ruth,
I’m so glad to hear that you’ll be presenting in Orlando. I’ll be at your session for sure! I have also signed up for the post convention workshop with Penny Kittle. I have “heard” you two speak so highly of her that I didn’t want to miss the chance to be in a workshop with her.

As an Orlando native I’d be happy to answer any questions about your upcoming trip.

  2. @Caroline: We’re not planning to post the presentations online. However, I’d be happy to suggest some mentor texts for the reluctant writers in your class. Feel free to shoot me an email (I believe you have my email address) and I’ll brainstorm some ideas with you. 🙂

  3. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend. Will you be posting any of your suggestions from the workshops? I am in the process of forming a writing club for reluctant boy writers in either second or third grade. I want to incorporate mentor texts that boys would enjoy. I would love to hear any suggestions you may have for this club along with any mentor texts you think may appeal to my reluctant writers. Thanks.
