Today we remember Columbus’ voyage across the seas. Can you imagine loading up three wooden ships and setting sail into the unknown? Columbus and his crew had no idea what to expect.
I think they would have made excellent writing workshop teachers.
Part of becoming a proficient teacher is being willing to take a risk into the unknown. As I work alongside teachers new to workshop, I want to give them everything they need and settle all of their fears. This is impossible. It is the process of venturing into new land that we learn.
One of the best qualities we can have as teachers is the willingness to accept and attempt best practices. Let’s be inspired by Columbus and take a risk in our writing workshops this week!
