A Bit of This & That

You may consider today’s post random, however, I prefer to think of it as eclectic. There are some things I’ve been meaning to share, some things I’ve been preparing to share, and some things I just learned about today and am wanting to share. Plus, I think a good dose of eclectic has never hurt anyone.
  • I decided to participate in Week in the Life sponsored by Ali Edwards. It started today (although you can totally start any time you want). So I lugged my camera around all day and pulled it out for a shot at random points throughout the day. I love the way documenting a week makes me shift my state of mind. Something today yielded was time scanning old photos with my mom. Here’s one of them. Hmmm . . . polyester and double knit? I wonder what I’m wearing today (or make my kids wear) that I’ll be chuckling about in 30 years?
  • A colleague of mine, Karla, shared her art with me today. I fell in love with it. It inspires me, makes my heart happy, and gives me a kick in the pants to break out my own paint brushes and the canvases that have been taunting me. Check it out here. (I am especially found of these little guys!)
  • Ever since Stacey shared some of her organization ideas, I’ve been percolating ways to share some of my systems for organizing Writing Workshop “stuff.” Here is a “sneak peak” into a longer post of a tour of my office. (It sounds so much more impressive than what it actually is! In reality, I wanted to test some of the photos + words I’m planning on including in an upcoming post!) Here is how I organize Units of Study resources:
  • I started a new notebook today. The front says: “Be the one who makes a difference.” This is a good reminder for me, especially during this time of the year.
  • My kids and I started reading Charlotte’s Web last night. We’ll be recording our thoughts in our Readers’ Notebook tomorrow. They were kicking around some ideas for an entry tonight while we were reading. I love that. By the way, this poem of Amy’s is what inspired me to read the book again.
  • It seems like I’ve been open to inspiration lately. I think sometimes we must position ourselves to be ready for unexpected bursts of inspiration. What’s been your inspiration recently?
  • I get to spend two days this week learning from Jeff Anderson. I’m looking forward to both sessions.
  • Finally, are you thinking about attending the All-Write Summer Institute? The Early Bird Discount is quickly coming to an end (May 1st the rates go up.) Click here to find out more details & register.
